TERROR ATTACK - MUMBAI 26 Nov '08

Mumbai, the financial capital of India was attacked on the 26th NOV by 10 – 15 suspected Pakistani terrorists and still it had not been overcome by 29 November. Targets were innocent people and tourists. Terrorists occupied the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower near the Gateway of India, the Oberoi Trident at Nariman Point and the Nariman House Jewish center (Where Israeli Rabbi and his wife stay) At least 160 people including at least twenty-two foreign nationals have been confirmed dead, and at least 327 have been injured.

The operation of rescuing people from these terrorist was the most dangerous task. The NSG – National Security Guards, the Army, the Air force and the Navy battled for over 48 hours before they could kill these terrorists and take control of these 3 places. A previously unknown organization identifying itself as the Deccan Mujahideen claimed responsibility by email sent to news organizations. Prime Minister Man mohan Singh has said the attacks probably had “external linkages,” believing that the attack could not have occurred without help. After two days of gunfire and explosions, the attack had ceased as of the early morning of 28 November in Mumbai. The fires were out and soldiers were leading hostages and guests to safety and removing bodies of those killed in the attacks. Both hotels occupied by terrorists were cleared and the terrorists were flushed out. Indian commandos – NSG stormed the Jewish center where the terrorists had held at least ten hostages. Five hostages were killed at the Jewish center.

In between all these, the political parties are blaming each other for the lapse of security, come on I really don’t know why people play the blame game rather than trying to analyse who is behind this and take them to task. Dirty politics as usual.
Sincere condolence to families who lost their dear ones.
